First Lady of Texas Cecilia Abbott believes women play an important role in the future of Texas. She elaborated on this belief June 4 during a presentation at the Hispanic Women in Leadership’s Annual Scholarship Luncheon. The keynote address was Abbott’s first in Houston since her husband, Greg Abbott, was elected governor last fall.
Following opening remarks by Texas State Senator Sylvia Garcia and an introduction by Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva M. Guzman, Abbott said, “In Texas, we celebrate all of the roles women play. As daughters, sisters, wives and mothers. As wage earners, business owners and caregivers. As women of faith, women of art and women of science. As women who teach their sons to care, and their daughters to dare. All while stretching your arms to give more hugs, your days to do more chores, and your dollars to pay more bills. In all the roles we play, women are born leaders, and I have been blessed to have many strong women to guide me.”
Abbott told the audience a bit about three of those women.
