Wardlaw to speak in library series

The Houston Public Library's African American Library at the Gregory School is honored to present Dr. Alva Wardlaw, director of the University Museum at Texas Southern University, as the special guest speaker for the "Lunch with a Legacy" series on Saturday, April 16 at 12 noon. Dr. Wardlaw will discuss her experiences of confronting racism as a student on the campus of Wellesley College and how she became one of the founders of Ethos, a black student organization at the college.

The event is being held at the Gregory School, 1300 Victor Street in Freedmen's Town. It is free and open to the public.

Dr. Wardlaw grew up in Houston's historic Third Ward. She graduated from Jack Yates High School. In 1969, she earned a B.A. in art history from Wellesley College. In 1989, she was recognized as one of the leading Afridan-American art historians in the country.
