ALERT: Travel during Spring Break

Spring break travel is expected to swell during the eight-day period of March 12 through March 19, with heavy traffic expected at both commercial airports in Houston.

Over a million departing passengers will be heading for the airports collectively next week, with Hobby Airport (HOU) seeing a 4.6 percent increase in departures compared to spring break 2011.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is not expecting as much traffic compared to the same period last year, but travelers should still take the necessary precautions.

Hobby Airport is still under construction until late 2012. The roadway leading to the airport's ticketing level is closed and all traffic is being diverted into the parking garage.

Check fly2houston.com for parking availability information and consider using the Super Shuttle services offered at HOU and IAH to avoid airport congestion. When picking up family and friends, the free Passenger Pick Up Waiting Lot will prevent circling the airport while waiting for arriving passengers.

Finally, be sure to keep up to date with current TSA regulations at TSA.gov. For up to the minute information about the airports follow them on Twitter, @IAH and @HobbyAirport.
