NEWS Houston Intercontinental Chamber to host Small Business Forum

The Economic Development and Tourism Division of the Governor's Office has selected the Houston Intercontinental Chamber of Commerce to host a Small Business Forum. HICC President Reggie Gray was notified last week that the organization was one of only 18 organizations in the state and one of only two in the Houston area to have been selected to participate. International Business Manager Jose Romano from the Governor’s Office made a formal announcement at the 2013 Economic Forum hosted by HICC on January 15.

Gray said, “We are very proud of the small business program we have built at HICC, and to be selected by the Governor’s Office to host a Small Business Forum in 2013 is validation of the hard work we have done. We’re really looking forward to working with the Governor’s Office to help the small business owners in our region to learn about the valuable resources available to them.”

The Governor's Small Business Forums are held across the state and are designed to educate the Texas entrepreneur and Texas small business community of the challenges in starting, operating and growing a business while highlighting opportunities, tools and resources available to the greater small business community. The 2013 Forum Calendar has not yet been set, but HICC expects the forum it will host will be held in late spring. It will be hosting the event with the support and cooperation of their sister organization, the North Houston Economic Development Council, which has been instrumental in building the small business program at HICC.

In addition to this latest accolade HICC and the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses also recently came to an agreement for 2013 future projects which will be announced later this month.

The HICC small business program helps business owners grow and develop their businesses largely through the Houston Community and Economic Development Center. The center is comprised of offices for HICC, NHEDC, the Hispanic Business Center International, the Small Business Development Center of the Lone Star College System – North Harris, business incubator offices, executive suites, training and conference rooms. This partnership and facilities have been utilized by over 100 member companies and organizations and over 200 potential and beginning new businesses that have received consultations.
